Visiting Positano

Positano is one of the most popular tourist cities on the Amalfi Coast. I was going to try and act like Salerno was more beautiful, since we’re so partial to it, but I can’t lie. Positano is absolutely gorgeous and has that picturesque houses-up-the-hills layout that the coast is known for.

To get to Positano we hopped on the ferry. It’s the best way to get around between cities and the views from the boat as you cruise by each little town are amazing.

Positano first impressions as we land at the dock. What a difference the sunshine makes!

Beach chairs calling our names!

Arriving in town, we browsed around a bit and stopped for lunch at La Cambusa. It was definitely in tourist-central, but we were right on the beach. The seafood dishes were delicious. I got a chicken dish and it wasn’t terrible but I learned my lesson; when on the coast, always get seafood.

Fresh seafood shop bustling and a shoe shop owner cleaning his displays. Beautiful set of stairs in the background too.

We headed back through the town and up the hill. We passed too many ceramic shops to count and a few restaurants we probably should have eaten at instead. We stopped and sniffed around in a pretty incredible soap shop too. The views were nice all the way up, but when you get to a certain point you finally get the big payoff view.

we loved this pergola

in love and a lovely view

Positano view from above. (yes the color is pumped up a bit, but everybody does it! Couldn’t resist.)

After our hike we went down to the beach with a bottle of wine to enjoy the scenery and people-watching. While we were eating I was amazing at how people were sunbathing, it was way too chilly in my opinion. Unfortunately, once we were out on the beach and in the sun, my turtleneck and long pants ensemble had me roasting. Kevin’s sister is visiting us for a few days and she had purchased a souvenir t-shirt. She saved the day by loaning it to me, and I could breathe again. Our Airbnb hostess later advised that for some reason it’s always chillier in Salerno than the rest of the coast. Good to know!

Another ferry ride with spectacular sunset views brought us home to Salerno. It’s going to be tough to top today, but tomorrow we’ll certainly try.
